Took the gators to Sunday School today and then to the movies to see How to Train Your Dragon. At dinner we talked about what they learned in church this morning and it was about asking God for things and you shall receive. Lincoln wanted to do the prayer for our dinner so I knew it would be good .. “Dear God, we learned this morning if we really really want something we’re supposed to ask you for it so here goes .. I really want to see The Three Stooges breakdance.” Too funny
Well this wasnt the event which changed my mind of Venetian tournaments. I stopped and picked up some surgical masks so I wouldn’t have to breathe both the smoke and that awful stuff they spray in the air. Was rocking and rolling along until my AA ran into KK and a K hit the flop and a K hit the river … it’s poker … I’m out and home and getting to spend some great time with the gators. Going to pop some real popcorn right now (not the microwave stuff) and enjoy their great minds.
Although I hate playing the smoke filled Venetian tournaments it is the best value in town today. They are doing some megas for tomorrow’s $2k event so I will go try my hand. Have a good friend who is interested in playing and I haven’t seen much of her this winter so we will meet there … but probably play in different events. I plan on playing tomorrow no matter today’s outcome. Maybe this will be the event which changes my opinion of Venetian tournaments.
Well I’ve been licking my wounds since Bellagio’s less than illustrious finish. I did my post game analysis and looked carefully at what I could have done differently. Business is hectic, which is good, and lots on the forefront. Might play Venetian tomorrow and will definitely play their Main Event on Saturday. Back in the trenches.
Well I can only brag I outlasted 50 of the top players in the world. I played hard, I played well and I am amazingly allright with today. I ran my chips up to 150,000 but then got incredibly unlucky on a couple of key hands. One was A J on a J 8 7 board, turn an Ace and the river a blank, guy had a set and I lost the minimum. Then I turned a straight against top two and pushed hard to protect the nuts, he called and the board paired on the river … it happens.
I am grateful for the experience, played well today (unlike yesterday) and just got unlucky. I am okay with the ups and downs of the game as long as I did my best. I did my best.
Well, what a roller coaster, but maybe that isn’t right as roller coaster would indicate going up on occasion. We started with 100k in chips, my high was 107k but my finish was 61k. What can I say, had a rough day, got rivered more than once and didn’t play my A game. Had Justin Young, Carlos Mortenson and Eric Seidel all at my table. Someone in the hallway was complaining about their tough table draw and I had to laugh to myself …. they’re all tough at this level. I have more than enough to stage a comeback and that is my plan tomorrow. For now, sleep …
