Bad Beats

Well it’s been a while since Ive written but there’s a reason. I’m on a one woman quest to get the bad beats out of the way before the Main Event. At the rate I’m going I will be a luck box for the Main. And all who read this will know why!

First there was the Seniors Event last Friday. Levels were still low and a guy raised every pot. I called from the big blind with KK as there were only three of us and my theory was to flop a set or to get out. Only $3k in starting chips doesn’t allow much wiggle room. Flop K J 3 rainbow. Perfect. Original raiser continuation bets 600. One caller. I make it 2200. Both call. Turn a blank. I move all in. Original raiser calls with AA and catches an ace on the river. Sigh. An unusually early exit for me.

Next day was the 1k. Move my chips up, call loose player with KJ. Flop KJ with two hearts. Bet. He moves all in showing 7 4 of hearts and gets there on the turn. Got clipped. Climb back up healthy. Slowly and surely. Finally have KJ diamonds in an unraised pot and I limped under the gun b/c of my position. Flop the nut flush when the board comes A Q 4 all diamonds. Big blind Instantly moves all in. I couldn’t wait to call. He turns over QJ with a pair of queens and no diamond. Turn is a queen and the river is a 4 and I am out. Wowser.

Today was the shootout event where you play a single table down to one player who advances. I took it slow and steady and careful. Table packed with Internet young guns who do this all day every day. After 2.5 hours I was heads up and out chipped about 2 to 1. I spent an hour and a half carefully and judiciously getting almost even in chips. Then the next hand. I had 10 8 on the button. Flop J 9 7. He bets. I reraise. He hesitantly calls. Turn a blank. He moves all in. I call with the the nuts. He turns over Q 10 and catches a king on the river for a higher straight. It stung but I played my best. Like I say … Hope they call me a luck box during the next one. I will laugh hard.

NT, those beats would suck the air right out of me. You can’t play any better than that. Happy B-Day and may the new year bring a swing of luck.

Those are not bad beats, Nancy; they are outright “Nasty”. Wish you the very best for upcoming events… Sooner or later good play will be rewarded!

    PS: Belated Happy Birthday!
