Well, usual Sunday which I really look forward to. The gators and I go to church, then to eat then to a movie. Today we had an extra treat as my sister was coming to visit for a week. Don and I are working on a project together which brings Aunt Kat in to help. Haven’t seen her since New York and the twins’ birthday. Always nice.
Been working on the blog some. Lots of new articles added to the site. Check out the tab above.
We mothers belong to a special club, and mothers who have had to bury a child are an even more exclusive club. It isn’t a club you would want anyone to have to know about, much less belong, but as we all learn through life, such is not our decision to make.
Got word last week about a poker playing friend, Karina Jett, who found her four year old son floating in their home pool on a Friday night. They had to pull the plug on Tuesday, such an awful, terrible, senseless tragedy.
Yesterday in the airport in Philly, headed back to Las Vegas, I struck up a conversation with a woman who lost her son three years ago. We were instantly linked in a sisterhood that only we can understand. She asked how old Hayden was. I said with tears in my eyes, “14”. She said “my son was 28. I had twice as long but it wasn’t enough.” What a profound statement that is. There’s never enough time with those you birth and nurture and love, truly love.
1,080 started the Borgata Tournament. I struggled Day 1 but rallied on Day 2. Started the Day with 37,300 from the starting stack of 30k, hit a high of 60k but was blinded off and lost a couple of key races. Was down to 26k with a raise, a call a reraise by a very loose player and I see a king in my big blind. I shove, convinced they would all fold. The reraiser actually had a hand and called with AJ. Flop a J but turn a king and I got back in the game.
Then late in the day, with a new table, my queens ran into aces for a 200k pot. Then on the last hand of the day, with only 8 big blinds to go, I pushed with 10/9 and got called by AK. 9 on the flop but king on the turn. I’m very happy with my play and for finishing 167. Tough game but great to play so well at that level.
Well in an unusual move I didn’t play Day One and am playing today instead. Picked up some sort of “bug” which I think was unwashed fruit on the plane and it hasn’t been fun. Decided to take Saturday off and play Sunday instead. Good news is I was able to eat yesterday. It was nice to eat and read and be lazy. Reminds me I don’t do that often enough. Start in 15 minutes so will be updating. Feel good about it.
Decided to play the Borgata and came up on Wednesday. Got into a $225 single table because I didn’t want to play late in a bigger buy in. Well, it didn’t work. I played almost three hours to win it, one of those hours heads up.
Played the $1500 event on Thursday and went out at the dinner break. A good example of why you shouldn’t play a weak ace under the gun. Ate dinner then played a $350 single table. Lost heads up with top pair against middle pair. Game is good.
Will play at noon tomorrow at noon for seats but play the Main Event either way on Saturday.
